Mission Organize and Declutter- Organized my DVD's!

I finally had the guts to get rid of all those pesky DVD boxes to save some valuable space! Check it out! organizingAll 10 seasons of FRIENDS fit quite nicely into one consolidated DVD book. I got it for $7 at Wal-Mart! I think that the DVD book is a superior way of viewing each season, and the DVDs are easier to get in and out for sure! As for the rest of my DVDs...Into this book I got for only $12 at Wal-Mart! And I have space to spare (both in my DVD book and on my movie shelf! :-)

I thought it would be really hard to get rid of the boxes... but it wasn't! It was very freeing! And you can do it, too! No one is more attached to their DVD boxes than I was to my FRIENDS seasons, but I feel so much better now!

I personally prefer the DVD books with only 2 on a page rather than 4. I think pages that hold 4 DVDs are cumbersome to turn.

Also, I arranged the DVDs in my book by genre rather than alphabetical order, and I left some space for future purchases in the back of each section. If you have a lot of movies, you could have a different book for each genre. After all, you're more likely to think "I'm in the mood for a Romantic Comedy" than "I'm in the mood for a movie that starts with an 'A' tonight". Haha!

Everyone remember that the laundry powwow is coming up on February 1st! So keep working on that laundry and come here to link up then!

  1. I was thinking about doing this just YESTERDAY -- so weird. Now I'm going to do it for sure. I think it will be so much easier to find them!

  3. Hubby and I were talking about doing something like this to get rid of the huge dvd cabinet in the living room. I believe this will be going on my to-do list.

  4. What a great idea! The packaging does take up room especially for series.

  6. That's exactly what I need! I actually have a long lidded basket that hold the CDS but we have too many! I think the next time I'll be at Target, I'll pick one up like yours! Thanks for making me do this! :)

  8. I do this with all our DVD's and music CD's. I love that the kids can flip thru it to decide what to watch. I also cut the front photo/image from the DVD case to the size of the opening so that they know where to put each movie back in its own spot.

  9. My kids in their teen years used those zipper CD holders all the time. It is so amazing how much space you saved by consolidating the cds & dvds. Smart Masked Mommy, you are!

  10. I throw away those cases as soon as I see them. Plus, for me, the kids can get out their own DVDs easier in a zippered case. Love your blog.

  16. Which Cd holder did you get? I can't find one that holds 40 DVDs.

  17. They both came from the same section in Wal-Mart. The first one holds 48, the second one holds 100-something. I'm not sure what brands they are.

  18. Man...I've tried to convince my hubby to do this. But, no go. He was a film major so maybe that has something to do with it?

  19. Thank you for the push to do this! I've had my daughters DVDs in a folder like this for months but am still storing the cases in a box in the garage. STUPID!!! I'll be working on this project this week!
