Muffin Tin Monday- Very Hungry Caterpillar Style!

At Michele's Muffin Tin Monday this week, the theme is to base your muffin tin lunch on a children's book. With all the caterpillars around our townhouse this week, The Very Hungry Caterpillar seemed like an obvious choice. Caterpillars appear to be raining down from above. They cover our sidewalk. They consume our front steps. I think it's gross, but my daughter is enchanted...

I tried to base it on the book as close as possible, but it came down to going with the flow of what was in my fridge. However, we were able to start with apples and end on a leaf- just like in the book! :-)

At our house, the very hungry caterpillar ate some apples, blackberries, strawberries, cheese, cake, hot dogs, pie, cantaloupe, celery, and pickles... but he was still hungry. So he ate his way through a lettuce leaf as well ;-)

It went a little differently in the book, but I don't think my 3 year old noticed! Lol!
I did all my hole-pokin' with a straw. It worked really well!

Wouldn't this be a great idea for a Very Hungry Caterpillar party? Just poke holes in whatever food you serve, and voila! Instant Very Hungry Caterpillar food! :-)

If you missed my "Under the Sea" muffin tin a few weeks ago, check it out!

  15. That's a great idea! I can't believe I didn't think of that, although we couldn't have done it this week (it will take some planning, since my guy is so picky AND has allergies to some of the things), but I've often thought it would be fun to do a Very Hungry Caterpillar buffet for a party. He especially loves watermelon.

  17. So cute!! All of the colors look so vibrant and I love the little hole in each of the foods. This is a favorite book of mine, so I think I might have to try this (one day) with my kids. I KNOW they would get a kick out of it. I sure hope they'd still be hungry for the lettuce at the end! ;)

Thanks for the comment on my blog yesterday and for pointing me in this direction to check out your MTM post! It makes me motivated to get going on that again!
